We are open today 12-4 PM and 11AM-2 PM Christmas Eve... please stop by and visit us then or when we re-open from Christmas break, which will be December 27.
Wishing everyone a happy holiday however you decide you want to celebrate it. I understand our annual dinner this year is a Festivus celebration. My first grievance is this... why am I celebrating something from a tv show that I could never get through the opening monologue? Sally Zehmisch make sure Ed knows that :-)
Here's what I've been playing getting ready for the games yesterday and today... the joyful card is from Bottlebrush: A Gallery for the Arts... again... Happy Holidays all.
Dick Gaughan was/is a premier Scottish folk singer and this was a rare find that I'm glad I found.
By now you know that Neil Young is one of my go-to guys.
The Highwoods String Band is a fine old timey band that is still out and playing. If you don't have them on vinyl get out and listen to them.
R.L. Burnside is a crazy blues/hip hop/garage amalgamation that I wasn't sure about until I realized I couldn't turn it off.
2 hours of Thelonious Monk was a real treat and another nice find.
Tom Paxton is one of my fav old-line folkies. This album is a little dark but true to his message and style.
This Nancy Griffith has some of my favorite cuts on it. It was almost knee-bending to hear her sing with John Stewart. He was such a strong performer and talented songwriter. Miss that voice.
The Beach Boys...even the lame albums are delightful and this one is somewhat experimental. I keep trying to get the young people coming to Last Dog Records to give them a try.
R.J. McPherson was a fun find. What nicely crafted and spirited holiday music. ... See more
The new cds with the The Carpenter Ants is currently in the shop Bottlebrush: A Gallery for the Arts. Great stocking stuffer and gift to keep your kids quiet while riding in the car.
I am a realist. I will never be a star. I will never have a "hit". I will never be on tour with people waiting in line to see me. I do. however, believe that over the years I have developed some ability to craft songs that are reasonably intelligent, humorous on occasion, and written from the heart and life experiences this heart has known. I am thrilled when an audience sings along with one of my tunes or when an artist covers one. That said, my new cd is out. It is not the Lonesome No More Band, it is with another group of friends, and it was those friends who sculpted this project. Many thanks to The Carpenter Ants with Michael Lipton and Charlie Tee (not to dismiss Ted Harrison and Jupie Little -they just aren't on facebook). I also thank Ammed Solomon for his contributions and my old friend Michael Stowe for his persistence in getting the harmonies right. It was the talent of Don Dixon that brought this all together and the final mixing of Tris Lozaw that completed it. Also, to my friend, sometime co-writer (Birmingham on this CD), and frequent editor, Bruce Hoffman, thank you for both your writing skills and your honesty. Especial thanks to Mj Isles McCurdy for managing the art work and overseeing the design and Andrew Dunmire for the design. Mj was primarily the one who kept pushing me to make this happen.
If you get the chance, go out and give it a listen and let me know what you think.
